In response to climate change, the Taiwan
government will officially begin imposing a
carbon fee in 2026.
According to the Climate Change Response Act
of the Ministry of Environment, starting
from 2024, large carbon emitters with annual
carbon emissions exceeding 25,000 tons will
pay carbon fees every other year. It is
expected that more than 500 companies will
be included in the first wave of charges,
including steel, cement, etc., with the
petrochemical and semiconductor industries
being the first to be affected.
A trial application will be carried out in
May 2025, and the carbon fee will officially
begin to be collected in 2026.
Although
the Ministry of Environment has established
a starting price for carbon fees, it has
launched an "independent reduction plan" to
encourage companies to reduce carbon
emissions. Companies can apply for AB
preferential rates as long as they pass the
review of the Ministry of Environment. |
